TV On The Radio bassist Gerard Smith lost his battle with lung cancer today. The band have canceled their upcoming shows beginning with tonight’s scheduled performance in Detroit. A statement on the band’s website says, We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.

Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone has been recovery for the last year. But he will join his band onstage for a hometown show on April 23 at the Metro in Chicago. Bloc Party To Reunite And Work On New Album
Bloc Party have announced that they’re returning from their two-year hiatus in September and will start working on their fourth album. Guitarist Russell Lissack said in a recent interview: Kele [Okereke, vocals] and I started working on Bloc Party stuff. We’re having a bit of a break until the festivals are over, because people have commitments during the summer, but we’re going to get back properly in September and sit in a rehearsal studio to work on new band material. And Lissack says he already has seven or eight songs written for the album.
