Slipknot’s Paul Gray Died Of Accidental Overdose

Slipknot bass player Paul Gray died of an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, a medical examiner has ruled.

Gray’s body was discovered on May 24 by a maintenance worker at TownePlace Suites in Urbandale. A hypodermic needle lay near the bed, and “all kinds of pills” surrounded Gray, who was hunched over in the corner of the room, according to a 911 call.

Polk County Medical Examiner Dr. Gregory Schmunk said today that it was two injected drugs of fentanyl which is a synthetic form of morphine that killed Gray. The pills did not contribute to his death, Schmunk said. Gray also suffered from significant heart disease, Schmunk said.
