Deftones are planning to begin work on their new album this summer and are looking at an early 2012 release. In a interview, frontman Chino Moreno says,
We’re going to have a month off, but in that month, we’re talking about going in and starting to write again, maybe even two or three weeks in a rehearsal spot just recording ideas and keeping it going. So if all goes well, hopefully we’ll have some product for early next year.

The Deftones will begin work on the follow-up to 2010′s ‘Diamond Eyes‘ this month before returning to their North American tour in May. Work on the album will resume in September with a release in 2012.

The lineup has been unveiled for the 20th anniversary of Lollapalooza, set for Aug. 5 to 7 in Chicago’s Grant Park. Coldplay, Eminem, Muse and Foo Fighters will headline, joined by Deftones, Manchester Orchestra, Black Cards, Patrick Stump, My Morning Jacket, Bright Eyes, Sleigh Bells, Flogging Molly, and many more. Deftones front-man Chino Moreno has launched a new side project called Crosses with FAR guitarist Shaun Lopez. They plan to release a series of EP’s later in the year.

Lollapalooza will go international for a two-day festival in Santiago, Chile, on April 2 and 3. Founder and Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell says he chose Santiago for its open space, wide range of cultural offerings and the local passion for contemporary music. The lineup includes more than 50 bands over five stages with headliners The Killers, Jane’s Addiction and Kanye West. Deftones, 30 Seconds To Mars, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Flaming Lips are among the artists confirmed for the event. Two-day passes are $110 pre-sale, then $136 and $152; Lolla Lounge VIP passes are $320 pre-sale, then $380. General admission single day tickets go on sale Feb. 11 and are $72 pre-sale, then $84. VIP passes are $240. There are also a variety of travel packages set up from North America here and here.
